Tetra Commons [ˈtɛtrə ˈkɑmənz]

The project is to create a visual identity for the project with local stores in Detroit that were redesigned with containers. Each containers will have different kinds of stories, gallery, classrooms, grocery, and etc.

The clients want this place to be the destination for both local residents and the new comers. The key words were: sustainability, incubator, gathering, transparent, and open to everyone.

My first approach to this project was to come up with the very simple name that is easily memorable. I, then, realized that the name of this project has more meaning to it than just a simple word. Thus, I changed my direction and started to research more about Detroit. I found out that french explorer Launet De La Mothe found this city, which inspired to give names to some of the remarkable places and buildings with French names. The background research about Detroit inspired me to come up with the name that was originated from French words. The game namd Tetris is a video game that players need to stack up the pieces that contain four segments in order to win. As the player wins the game by stacking the pieces, the recycled containers at Tetra Commons are stacaked up together, which will eventually let the local stores to grow not only in Detroit, but also reach out to other states. Thus, Tetra Commons is a place for everyone to share their time at the container stores.
